CAA Ontario High Theft Risk Surcharge Update July 2026

This CAA Insurance Update to the High Theft Risk Premium Surcharge for automobile policies in Ontario, effective July 1, 2026. The update targets vehicles from the 2022 model year or newer, citing the immense financial burden of auto theft in Canada as the primary reason for these costs. Key changes include adding specific Acura, Lexus, and Toyota models to the high-risk list, while the Dodge RAM 1500 has been removed from this category. Additionally, the mandate continues to apply to most non-electric vehicles valued at $125,000 or more. Geographic eligibility has also shifted, with the North Bay – Thunder Bay District being reinstated for coverage while Northwestern Ontario remains excluded. These measures reflect the insurer’s ongoing strategy to mitigate significant losses through updated pricing and regional criteria.
